How to make your first post
You can take part in the forum either by starting a new topic or by replying to an existing conversation.
Starting a new topic
Open the forum where you want to post and click or tap New Topic.
Give your topic a short, clear title so other members can see what it is about.
Then write your message in the main text box.
When you are ready, you can use Preview to see how your post will look, or Submit to publish it.
Replying to an existing topic
Open the topic and click or tap Post Reply.
Write your message and then use Preview or Submit.
You can also use the Quote button on another member’s post if you want to respond to a particular part of what they have written.
You do not have to tell your whole story at once
A first post can be as short or as detailed as you want.
You might simply say that you are new, briefly describe your situation, or ask a question that is on your mind.
There is no need to explain every part of your family history before you are allowed to join a conversation.
Protecting your privacy
Please avoid posting real names, addresses, workplaces, schools, phone numbers, email addresses or other details that could identify you or members of your family.
It is usually better to describe people by relationship — for example, “my son”, “my daughter” or “my former partner” — rather than by name.
Before you submit
It can be worth reading your post once before publishing it, especially if you are upset or angry.
Ask yourself whether there is anything in it that identifies someone unnecessarily or that you may later wish you had not shared publicly.
Your first post may be moderated
As an anti-spam measure, your first post may be held for moderator approval before appearing on the forum.
This is normal. Once it has been approved, later posts will usually appear immediately.
If you make a mistake
Do not worry. Everyone makes typing mistakes or changes their mind about how they have phrased something.
Where editing is available, you can correct your own post. If you accidentally publish personal information that you cannot remove yourself, contact a moderator as soon as possible.

There is no “right” way to introduce yourself.
You are welcome to read quietly for as long as you like, reply to someone else first, or start your own topic when you feel ready.
